A beautiful shop in a beautiful location with beautiful suits, my husband hired a suit for a function last minute. Before we were able to pick up the suit we were hit with covid, therefore not able to attend the event we had hired the suit for. We had paid for the suit on the day of fitting, £75, and had expected not to get all of our money back for the suit, however we were utterly shocked when we were told we would only be entitled to £25 back as refund, In cash despite paying by card and we would need to go back to the shop to claim it . The owner we spoke to was very rude and dismissive, she told us that she had already made alterations to the suit ( taking the leg up an inch) and that the £50 was needed to cover her costs. She stated it was not her problem we had to cancel.
Upon my return to the shop to get our £25 refund i questioned the amount again, I asked why the refund was little, minor alterations would not cost £50 to fix and she would of been free to hire the suit again, that surely they had a covid policy as so many other hire shops do, I said that the experience would make me not want to use her service again in future. she stated the £50 was a deposit and they do not have a covid policy. Why would they. It was not her problem that we had to cancel. She was not at all bothered about loosing any future business from ourselves. I then checked the website that states the deposit is 50% of the full price of the item, I pointed this out to her, and she finally decided to refund us correctly.
I will not be using this service again. Especially in these uncertain times we found ourselves in and the ever changing circumstances, you would expect a local business to treat its customers with kindness and compassion not to rip them off at any chance they get.
