Car park (Boxmoor Golf House)

This rough hardstanding carpark was once the overflow carpark for the now defunct Boxmoor Golf Club clubhouse. I think it is now under the control of The Box Moor Trust who also own the common. It is situated on Sheethanger (or Shothanger) Common off Box Lane B4505 road. It has been divided up into three sections using heavy wooden posts to prevent lorry drivers using it as an overnight stopover lay-by. These posts are not that visible when you are parked near them, so easy to forget they are there, so do take care when reversing out, not to collide with them causing damage.
I tried to get this new place called Car Park (Sheethanger Common) but Google Maps wouldn't accept it, as they couldn't verify it, even though there's a big sign in the middle with Sheethanger Common written on it per my photo. There's none so blind than those who will not see!

Free car park by Sheethanger Common for half a dozen or so cars near some nice woods and hills with plenty of pleasant walks around the Boxmoor Trust area. Definitely a popular area for Red Kites, never seen so many in one place as we did near Bovingdon. There is another car park nearby if this one is full.

It's ok, a bit small but you can normally park there.

Decent free car parking for a walk in Boxmoor. I'd advise backing into the spot from the road as backing out onto the main road is not ideal and the traffic is pretty fast on that road.
