Great Dixter House & Gardens

Paradise. If Heaven exists it must look like this garden! Paradise Garden this is the real name of this place!
I thought that Thornton Hall Garden was the most beautiful but I was wrong! I can not express my feelings when by mistake I entered this place from wrong side and found myself in wonderful place. Garden, where everything seems to be in perfect place since God created world. It seems that nobody touches any plant because they have always been there ( not true as I have seen many gardeners).
In spite of recent very hot weather and drought everywhere, here you could admire huge abundance of colours, textures and scents. All shades of greens, yellows and other colours. The only place you could see how dry is everywhere, was the meadow.
Many paths and hidden spots make this garden much more extended than it really is.
Many interesting outbuildings to eat, rest or find out interesting facts.
The house itself is in fantastic condition after very expensive renovation and I would like to move in straight away and never leave the place.
I am in love in this place!
Really recommend to visit Great Dixter House and Gardens.

A very interesting gardens and house to view. Well worth getting information from the volunteers in the house. It made the experience more worthwhile to lear. Some of the history of the house and the family.
There is a high quality shop where you can books, gifts and garden related items.

Very hot day, part of the gardens were dry due to the recent hot spell/time of year. Elsewhere, the plants were exuberantly growing over parts of the paths, the volunteers/staff were working hard to keep gardens looking good. The house was cool, with enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. The cafe served very nice food to suit Everyone,with all recyclable platters & cutlery.

Spent a lovely day here. Gardens are beautiful, not too formal and lovely walkways through them. House was amazing, great furniture and very knowledgeable guides ,who are happy to talk. Nursery has lots of plants for sale
at great prices. A lovely lady throwing pots in the entrance of one of the barns, where you can buy pots and objects she has hand made. Will be back.

Lovely gardens with lots of colour and variety . Interesting house with a history, very well explained by the friendly and knowledgeable guides.
Nice little cafe with shaded seating areas if needed. Plenty of plants on sale in the Nursery. Unsure why Google states that gardens open at 9am, as they don't open up till 11am and the house is Midday. The Nursery the only thing open earlier. Would recommend a visit if your in the area.

Beautiful gardens and house. The gardens are really tranquil and there are friendly guides as well. Gardens are suitable for a pram but it can be tight so be prepared to Carry child at times. there is also a small restaurant which has delicious food. Well worth a visit

For years it was a goal to visit here. It was worth the wait. Luscious gardens including a vegetable garden, meadow, and small nursery. Charming location, we stayed in Rye which was a treat.

Unquestionably the best gardens I've ever visited. Amazing layout of different areas with stunning planting choices. We visited in autumn and an astonishing amount of the planting was still in flower. The planting is enhanced by being placed amongst many lovely buildings and there's a strong feeling of dense planting that feels very natural with nothing having been "manicured" yet there's a tropical garden, vegetable gardens, fruit cages, several small cacti and succulent areas several greenhouses, hundreds of cold frames and many composting areas, one of which has been given to the largest patch of courgette and gourds I've ever seen. The house is stunning with a fascinating history and it's all surrounded by really beautiful countryside. A truly excellent day out and there's a great cafe serving hot food, salads from the garden (in season) and great coffee. In addition there's a large barn housing a team of traditional carpenters making rustic garden furniture and traditional garden and field fencing, there's also a lady selling some lovely hand made ceramics.
