The Star & Garter

We visited many times during the commonwealth games and the staff there could not have been more welcoming and helpful! We were so happy to have people to say hello to and forget about the stress of supporting a family member competing! They made us feel welcome and at home and happy to chat and help. They made our guide dog and small children feel welcome.

The food was fantastic! 11/10 would recommend!

Service was very good, staff were polite and fast! The food was very nice and not too badly priced! Good selection of drinks on tap and they pour a decent Guinness.

My wife & I called in tonight as I’ve always fancied it & we were in the town. The staff were lovely, and the food was lovely too. Very spacious seating area & nice toilets. Will most definitely call in again.

Nice welcome, excellent knowledgeable and quick service. Great selection. Love how they bring the 'specials board' to your table.

We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday party at the Star and Garter and couldn't have been happier. They set up a long table for us in the back of the restaurant to fit our group of 20. There was plenty of space, the food was great and everyone had a fabulous time. Special shout out to the fantastic team who looked after us so well. They were professional, courteous and attentive throughout the whole evening. I'd definitely recommend this place for special occasions.

Not been in a few years. Still absolutely superb. Steak was one of the best I've had in the UK the last few years!

We went here for our works Christmas party, and although the food I had was very tasty - camembert to start, rib of beef for main. When we went upstairs to the function room, the stairs had clearly not been hoovered for a very long time! There was a Christmas tree in the room which was lovely, but no christmas table decorations , and most disappointingly there were no Christmas Crackers. Its not really a Christmas party without a little paper hat on. We would have been better off having a couple of tables in the restaurant and eating off the main menu for better value and better atmosphere.

Just went for Sunday lunch. It was fabulous from start to finish. Lovely staff and the food was so nice. I had the goat's cheese for starter and veggie roast for main. Both generous portions and sublime. The extra pot of gravy was very welcome and generous! They were very busy but the staff were brilliant and food was served at a lovely pace.
