An incredibly rude man behind the counter seems to have to correct my wife and also my mother everytime they are there to collect a parcel as apparently we pronounce our surname incorrectly. He says this every time we go in to do this and everytime he tells us of the story that his friends in the Lake District are Irish and pronounce it the proper Irish way. He says this in a very condescending tone to both of them which makes them both leave feeling less than respected.

My late grandad pronounced it our way all our lives and we have all inherited to say it the same. We've met actual Irish Mahers and while they may correct us the one time, they tend to stop after the one time.
To this man from Widmer End Local, just stop. Be polite. Stop saying the same line again and again. If my nan came in, would you correct her too? She's 87 year old now and has had the name and pronounced our way for the last 65+ years.
