Oil City Pickups

I have bought quite a number of pickups from Oil City and I currently have them in four guitars. The quality if the product is outstanding and can match or better anything out there for same products. And another big factor for me is the customer service. Very quick response and fantastic communication. The recommendation on products for your requirements are top notch. In my experience everything is fantastic in relation to Oil City so highly recommended.

Ok, full disclosure...I was fortunate enough to win a set of Oil City 5th Anniversary Triple Blues Strat Single coil pickups, which were very kindly donated by Ash @ Oil City Pickups for a raffle prize for a special Cancer Charity.

These were handbuilt with my name engraved on the base plate and along with my choice of parchment coloured covers were delivered with certificates of authenticity in the boxes.
My Strat already had Lollar Blackface pickups so I already know what a great single coil sounds like....Well after plucking up courage, I fired up my soldering iron and armed with a new mint green Custom Shop Scratchplate I set about installing them.

It was the first time I'd opened up my Strat and was pleasantly surprised to see top quality cts pots, orange drop capacitor and a treble bleed cap on the volume pot..So on to the new Oil City's...The first thing I immediately noticed was that they sounded immense in all 5 positions of the 5 way selector switch. The bridge which is traditionally quite brash and ice picky now sounded smooth and nice and honky..Even the middle pickup on its own, which is something I rarely use, sounded fab..
On to my favourite Strat sounds of the neck pickup and Neck/middle combination...Well my Strat's alive...Articulate, expressive, clear and wonderfully defined. I'm one very, very happy bunny..

Another thing I noticed was now the tone controls actually make massive difference to the sound..I normally have the tone controls flat out, but I can see myself using them a bit more in the future.

In summary, the Pickups aren't going anywhere! They nail the SRV/Hendrix tone, which I believe, was Ash's intention when designing the 5th Anniversaries...These weren't the only prize that Oil City had donated the the Cancer Charity Raffle, which raised a massive amount for a very worthy cause...So thank you very much Oil City!

I wanted something a bit different from the usual humbuckers I tend to build / buy guitars with. After opting for a set of p90's (humbucker format) I am sold! Probably my favourite pickups and I have the usual Seymor Duncan's, EMG's, Gibson stock pickups, Di Marzio's. Superb build quality too!

I have had Ash's pickups in my Strat for about a year now. Service was fabulous, communication excellent and the pickups sound unbelievable. They have great sustain and you really can achieve such a wide range of tones. The "diamond geezer" pickup especially shone.

Was looking for a hot , bluesy pickup set last year that would give me a Gary Moore type sound . Had a chat with Ash, who recommended his Nightfighter Alnico 2 Custom set. What an awesome set they are.I've had various Seymour Duncans and others in my Les Pauls but these blow them all away. Delighted!!

Recently installed the 'mighty ninety' humbucker sized p90 in the neck and it sounds incredible. When I upgrade the bridge pickup I will 100% be getting it from Ash.
