Here start the Francigena way. Here the Roman St. Augustin began a new era for Anglo Saxone people. Is a UNESCO site. It's worth a visit for its importance

The visitor centre is really informative and there's information boards all around the site. A nice way to spend time away from Canterbury city centre. Plenty of open space, benches and areas to picnic.

A cute place to wander around if you have an English heritage card. Mostly ruins so not worth paying really. Fun afternoon .

Another English Heritage site visited. This happens to be a world heritage site too. The audio guided tour is excellent.. it takes you thru the history of the place quite interestingly, even kids would luv listening to it like a story.
Staff were very friendly and the place wasn’t crowded, so it was quite relaxing. Make sure to wear a cap and sunglasses on a sunny day.

A good way to start your visit in Canterbury. The staff is very available and the historical site has many interesting things.

Maybe it can be improved by volunteer guides who can add some colours to the Abbey history

This UNESCO world heritage site is mostly in ruins. It has a rich history that is brought to life with the audio tour.
Entrance is £10 which includes the audio tour.

Founded in the 6th Century, St Augustine's Abbey is a property run by English Heritage. The remains of the abbey are next to King's School that once formed part of the abbey and a later royal palace built by Henry VIII.

Parking is nearby is at the Longport Car Park and by the abbey. Please note though that Canterbury Council Car Park charges are expensive per hour.

The entrance contains a museum of the abbeys history and decline, with artefacts found on the site. In addition there is a small gift shop as well.

An audio guide is available, with activation boards around the site to give an audio description of each part of the abbey.

There is good access throughout most of the site for those with mobility issues, and dogs on leads are welcome. However, in some parts there are steps to certain parts of where the crypt is located. However the crypt if visible from ground level.

Around the site are also grave markers of where various Kings of Kent, early Archbishops of Canterbury and abbots.

Although the remains of the abbey are not as substantial as others, there is still plenty to see and spend a few hours.
