Part of a historic feat in the form of establishment of lock gates & canals, that changed the economy of the then Britain, Millmead lock is hidden behind bylanes but is restored with a small park / picnic area next to it. Worth a visit if you have time in hand and interest in such history while visiting Guildford

It is amazing that this thing is still in operation after centuries of use!

I even had the chance to help a lady open the gates for her boat to clear the lock on a Saturday morning. A great experience indeed!

Ir you are in Guildford, do not miss the chance of watching this.

A lovely place to chill out and escape the town centre. Only disappointment was the amount of litter left by numpties. There's a litter bin there. Use it !

Charming area. Fascinating to watch the water levels rise and fall with the opening and closing of the gates with boats passing through. Members of the public were helping with the manual winding of the gates... an interactive, interesting experience!

This is a beautiful area and an ideal place for a walk.

It is a lovely place for photography and also just for observing the river.
