The Market Cross or 'Pinnacle' is dated 1741 and stands in the southern corner of the market area in the centre of Martock, adjacent to the Market House. The Pinnacle stands on a medieval stone base which probably once supported a market cross. The upper column, which contains a block with 4 sundial faces, is thought to have been added by the then Lord of the Manor. All but the plinth block was entirely rebuilt in 1982. Constructed of Hamstone ashlar, it stands about 6 metres overall height. The Pinnacle also gives its name to the public bus stop close by.
