This place was great. Huge area to walk in, abandoned quarry to explore and amazing views. It is completely free of charge (including free parking) and everything is open for access.
There are no tourist trap frills to ruin the experience and it is so big that you don't have huge crowds of people getting in the way.
I would say one thing and that is make sure your children stick to your side! There are very few guard rails to prevent you from falling over a sheer drop on to unforgiving stone and the grassy banks are always damp with moisture and easy to slip on.
This is a walkers dream and although dogs are welcome there are lots of signs around asking that they are kept on a lead at all times.
One last thing; bring a coat. Even in the summer it can get pretty damn cold up here and the wind is always strong.

A good place to learn about the extraction of limestone in days gone by. There are absolutely fantastic views towards Bannau Sir Gaer and the Sawdde valley. Well worth a visit, if just for the views

Managed to just catch the edge of the clouds on our wander and see the sun shining on the valley beyond.

Happened upon this place by chance so we stopped for a wander and explore. Interesting place as you can really see what went on there. Lots of paths to walk apart from the main path which is nice to get rid of some cobwebs. Had a few bits of information written describing the ways they worked here.

Fantastic panoramic views from nearby summit, a very easy stroll east from the c car park. You can see down to the Loughor Estuary, as far as Whitford Burrows and Llangennith Burry Holmes. Over to Port Talbot to the east. Best to visit in the afternoon to enjoy the sunset. In winter it is magical with a sprinkle of snow.

Great memories of this place, which my dad used to take us to in the 1970s on boy's trips, caving, climbing etc. We had a Comma camper van, which only just made it up the road. There used to be a giant rusty stone-chomping machine there - long gone, I'd guess! Woke one day to the entire valley being under a blanket of mist, we were up above it, looking down, amazing!

Wild uninhabited moorland to the west of Y Mynnydd Du, that receives little footfall. Excellent views west to the Preselli and South West to Gower.

Walk south east from the Brynamman road following the clear path south east on ascending rocky terrain.

The cairn at Moel Gornach is where the photo was taken, a great mysterious pile of limestone. From this stunning viewpoint head east through the saddle and back up to the flat summit of Foel Fraith,

From here drop to the transverse path that leads north into Cwm Sawde Fechan, then returning west by the Beacons Way.
