Beautiful place, as a local it is one of my favourite places to come. The views from the top of the burial chamber are incredible, surrounded by ocean in front, countryside from the back and beaches either side. The burial chamber itself is locked so you need the key to go in but you can still walk around the mound and through the entrance with the historic feel. There is an information board at the start of the path from the beach way and a slate with information on the stones at the entrance. It's great place to come for a stroll from Cable Bay beach and a nice little trek from the local village. Also it is on the coastal path, beautiful walk.

Barclodiad Y Gawres Burial Chamber

Legend has it that the mound was carried by a Giantess in her apron.

Constructed 5,000 years ago through the combined efforts of Neolithic peoples from the Boyne Valley of Ireland, West Spain and Portugal, Orkney Islands and Brittany. The collaborators shared a love of rock art and the information plaque promised access to view their works. The art depicts zigzags and spirals which had been pecked into the surface of the boulders using quartz and hammer stones. The inspiration is reported to have been heavily influenced by the Irish Boyne Valley participants.
Unknown as to the purpose however we can speculate that shamans used the images to journey and commune with the dead.

Not able to view their works, unfortunately. The stones were behind a metal gate and it was too dark to get close enough to see. Such a shame.

The placement of this site is stunning as it looks over the Irish Sea from a commanding position. The opening of the Chamber was visible from the road as I approached the area.

A wonderful burial chamber right above the sea, re-buried under a mound of earth, with carved stones inside. The carved stones are behind a locked gate so they can only be approached if you arrange to get the key, but you can see them through the bars.

Worth the moderate walk from the parking area towards the right, along the coastal path. The interior is locked, which is understandable. Still, can see plenty.

Rarely opened but worth researching when it is open. A very important Neolithic tomb. Carvings on the stones.

Visiting family locally and decided on checking this place out. Plenty of parking nearby. Nice sandy beaches. A short walk from the carpark. Shame it's been bared off so you can't go inside. And the top has been blocked off. Which was ment so the sun could shine directly down on the graves on the solstice. Worth a visit if you like history.

Interesting place. We found a painted rock which the kids loved to find. Would like to visit when the gates open and have a look inside
