Auxiliary to some staff nurses ,work incredibly hard ,are very kind & caring . Investigations found I had 2 strokes Occupational staff are very kind, domestic staff are also the hidden face of running a busy ward . Even what I called the ‘taxi’ men & women who take you to & from scans ,ultra sounds etc ,deserve recognition as well as the honest security guards & those that take orders for the delicious food.
It’s just the Doctors that are NOT helpful - rude , arrogant & condescending in attitude. If your lucky to see any actually related to your physical condition & not to a mental disability which I was open about .Even carrying a card especially for health professionals to read ,from an organisation called PODs in Cambridge , giving a brief description so they are aware of how best to assist us & thus saving them valuable time .) However I found they could not see past my MH & despite having an IQ of 164 .They only saw what they wanted to see ! Spoken English was poor as most were foreign & unlike the nursing staff they are not required to take English lessons ! They Insisted my mental condition was “fairly rare “- Actually it’s not , it’s just very rare that one gets the diagnosis of “Dissociative Identity Disorder “. They simply write you off ,acting extremely rude ,not caring your still a person who can have physical conditions & have feelings too .They lie in notes you have no control over, putting down medication your allergic to & could kill but never took or were given .
Hard work from young girls & women who should be looked after better by management ,in poor conditions, whom are desperately needed in England if we are to keep the innovation of Bevan with a NHS free to all & the envy of the world .The dedicated & honest Philippines & Indian nurses have to learn English they pay for whilst sending money home to their families as well as having families of their own , remain committed in pressurised working conditions often under staffed & over worked . A valuable asset to our NHS .More recognition for their extremely dedicated & thorough work is needed.
Having allergies to dairy products the food is excellent but drinks are poor . Their was never enough GMO soya milk so you have to buy your own at extortionate rates from the CVS shop that sells them despite your income being frozen whilst an inpatient.
Also being on the younger side to other ,more elderly patients you do tend to get neglected & more is expected from you .I worked hard trying to get over my strokes as well as coming down with one infection after another & assisting auxiliary staff (I worked on an end of life ward at 16 as a nursing auxiliary whilst training for my city and Guilds in Community care ) However I wasn’t being paid the £8 an hour looking after patients on the ward or playing on a mobile.
A range of emotions came out in people if you have severe Dissociative Identity Disorder & Chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with no next of kin or friends near by I was at their mercy .
Most of the time I was invisible, left to cry ,feel abandoned ,isolated , confused ,violated belittled & lied to .
This is how I felt as part of my experience as an in patient for 29 days on the neurological bay ,Heydon Ward . East Block .
I was lied to on more than two occasions , my medical notes were falsified having in them ie I was violent when I was actually with the hospital Chaplin at the time . Oh a special mention must go to hospital chapel , prayer rooms and gardens as well as the incredible work of the hospital Chaplains .
I ended up being sectioned twice & had a deprivation of Liberty order placed on me despite not given any paper work -until hours on ,Vince a vile Africana male matron handed them to me .Luckily I had solicitors already working for me .It did not stop out right lies & deceit + inexperience from Emily a staff nurse with an unhygienic septum piercing hidden up her nose . Infection control!
I had So many infections whilst their . If you have family & or friends you will have good assess to treatment compassion & care.
