Staff lovely breakfast absolutely wonderful.... I'm afraid the room we had was rather lacking. The devan double bed we had was broken. On a new side it had completely collapsed. It was rather late in the evening when we found this out so stuffed a load of pillows beneath and made do. The following morning after breakfast I raised the issue with a male member of staff who seemed to be in charge and informed they had a new bed ready to replace..... I'm rather disappointed they allowed a room with a known broken bed to be given to paying guests at full rate. The parking also is non existent. Guests are asked to park in the local housing estates reserved car park....

Decent bar and hotel very near to the station in Abergavenny. The room was clean and comfortable, although the building needs a bit of updating. Very friendly staff that made it a good visit, very helpful and cheerful. Had a nice cooked breakfast in the morning, good veggie breakfast too.

Very difficult to post a review at this time owing to ongoing refurbishment, however. Pub/Hotel is very close to the railway station, have to say, very little noise and could be very convenient for those arriving by train, those arriving by car could possibly find parking a problem. On arrival a very warm welcome by the barman & the locals. Evening meals not served at present (pies, pasties etc available) but who knows what the future holds? (10 minute walk will take you eateries). There appears to be an extensive refurbishment going on (and believe you me it's needed) but, what has been done has been done well. There are two recently refurbished rooms to the rear beneath the pub (see pics). I was informed the intention is to convert the old hostel dorms into more ensuite accommodation. Rooms and whole premises all lovely and warm. Very good traditional breakfast. One good real ale also available.

We only stayed here because everywhere was booked up for a family party we were attending. The room was absolutely disgusting marks on the walls ,bed sheets broken tiles in the bathroom. It needs to be totally renovated throughout. The only saving grace was the breakfast .Give it a wide birth .

Had a lovely stay at the great western. Thanks in particular to a lovely guy called Trevor for looking after us so well and cooking us a delicious breakfast. Room had just been done up and was beautifully clean and crisp!

A very friendly pub located beside the train station.Had a couple of drinks while waiting for our train which was subsequently cancelled. We returned to The Great Western where the helpful barman found us some telephone numbers of local taxis.
