Both my girls have enjoyed their time at Amherst. The school has provided them both with great opportunities both educationally and extra curricular. Through their experiences they have both grown into confident young women.

Outstanding pastoral support and a strong school ethos, ensures that the approach to the teaching and learning of the pupils, is of a continuously high standard. Excellent leadership guarantees that these standards are maintained.

sadly we had to withdraw my daughter from the school after 7 months as we were given an ultimatum by the head teacher. 3 months into her new school she was identified as having SEN needs by the school SENCO. Additional support and assessments were put into place by the new school to ensure inclusion and best endeavours were met. I wish that Amherst could have provided this for her while she was there instead of their judgemental and dismissive approach taken by the head.

If you’re considering a private school education please don't waste your money here!. They will sell you ‘Amherst’ story but they most certainly won’t deliver what they sell. Poor pastoral care, poor teaching, dreadful leadership, lack of facilities, poor communication on every level, inadequate special needs provision, inexperienced staff. The head teacher is absolutely useless and disrespectful towards the students. They are unable to deal with bullying as they should, basically the head will lie and tell you what you want to hear but then not deliver what is promised. Don’t waste your money or your child’s education here! (Speaking from experience as a parent who has had 2 daughters attend this school and i have withdrawn them).

I cannot recommend this school...and whole heartily agree with comment below (which had now been removed) in my experience pastoral care wasn’t good, In fact barely existed. If you are looking for a school for a child with possible or diagnosed SEN issues, I wouldn’t recommend this school.

It’s a shame, it could be a lovely inclusive school, but unfortunately is let down by poor leadership (in my opinion), and an inability to look at the whole picture or listen to the child’s voice.

Since leaving this school, my child has been diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, and is academically a high achiever. A psychiatrist working for CAMHS has also diagnosed clinical depression. He has worked out a timeline of when the depression started and it took him back our experiences here, highlighting just how poorly the situation was handle by the Head, who's more interested in getting national headlines, than children’s welfare… he had absolutely no regard what soever to the long term impact this would have on my child.

This news was obviously devastating to us as a family, and really wouldn’t want other families with SEN needs to be put through this experience.
