A revelation! So very glad a place serving authentic dishes from across South India has opened in North London. We tried some of the greatest hits of malabar cuisine — Kothu (lamb), lentil vadas, parippu curry and coconut rice. Everything was superb. Spicy and flavourful. Delivery was on time too (weekday dinner). This one is going to become a regular!

We loved this restaurant! We ordered takeaway on a Monday night and did not have any delivery issues. We ordered directly from them and the meal was delivered on-time. We ordered the lamb kathu rotti, masala dosa, and lentils vada and it was tasty. We did have to reheat the dosa and vada as I enjoy it hot and crispy but I didn't mind that. You can't expect food delivery to be piping hot as you would receive it while dining at the restaurant. I highly recommend you check this out for an authentic south indian treat!

Hands down the best (and probably the Only) South Indian you can find in North London. It has become our regular Indian takeaway. I’m from South India so I was thrilled when I found this restaurant as there seems to be a genuine dearth of restaurants serving this kind of food up here. They don’t list the run of the mill curries-I recognise most of the dishes and I can definitely say they are made authentic and true to their original taste. The malabar parathas are flaky and soft and the veg and meat curries, biriyanis are flavoursome and tasty. I’ve recommended this to most of my friends in the neighbourhood and everyone loves it. Don’t be put off by the delivery complaints in other reviews. Because we order regularly, we found that they can get very busy and have limited delivery people so we avoid Fridays and now tend to place orders earlier in the evening so we give it plenty of time to arrive.

I ordered food to be delivered to me over the weekend and waited over two hours to receive my order. I called twice during this time and was told the delivery man would arrive imminently both times, but he did not. When the food arrived it was lukewarm and disappointing. No refund was offered for the unusually long delay.

Takeaway via deliveroo- lovely curries and paratha. Didn’t try the dosa as wasn’t sure it would travel well, but we will do next time. This is our new favourite takeaway!

Ordered this for the first time through Uber Eats and it was SO good that I jumped on this specifically to leave a review. The parathas in particular were the best we've had in years! Will definitely be ordering again.

UPDATE August 2022: I've changed my rating from 3 stars to 4 as there are now two different masala dosa options on the menu, one spicy and one not. The normal (non-spicy) masala dosa is delicious - so glad it's available again! Still no lentil vada but maybe that will be the next classic dish to make a welcome return...

When we first ordered from Malabar Dum about a year ago (March 2021) the food was excellent - delicious lentil vada, good masala dosa, by far the best drumstick sambar I've had, and very generous portions. Recently the menu has changed: no more lentil vada (why?!), and the masala dosa is now called 'spicy masala dosa'. Masala dosa is usually a mild dish that you can safely order for children or people who don't tolerate hot food, flavoured with mustard seeds, curry leaves, ginger, and a small amount of cooked green chili; this 'spicy' version is so hot I wouldn't even give it to my Sri Lankan grandmother! It has so much raw green chili in it that it's actually unpleasant to eat. I made a note on my most recent order asking for less green chili but this was ignored. The sambar is still very good, and dal makhani is also tasty. Prices have gone up (like everywhere), portion sizes have gone down a bit, there are very few vegan options, and with the changes to the menu I don't think we will be ordering again. It's a shame because when it was good, it was really good.
