Please read my whole post so you can get the full picture.

So I live 30 seconds walk from here and walk past is all the time. The first time I went was in the opening weekend maybe a year or two ago, and the food was aweful, the service was slow with barely anyone there, the music was "chart pop" music and loud, the tables had these god aweful plastic tablecloths and overall a bad experience, keeping in mind that literally opposite them is an Italian restaurant that has been there for 45 years with a well established community and great food that my family and I have been going to for decades.

I just came to Il Mulino today (August 2020) and, well, my 5 star rating is all you need. A very attentive manager, kept us filled with drinks, music was straight out of the God Father, and other classic Italian themed movies (love it, its cute and homely!) and the thank god the plastic tablecloths had gone!

Food came promptly and was clearly made fresh. Calamari was not greasy and was crispy, and the Crepe stuffed with beef and cheese was made delicately. The pizza dough was lovely and crisp on the outside with lots of toppings of a good quality, my sisters linguini was packed with prawns and squid and clearly the sauce had been made with fresh shellfish stock as the flavour was strong. My parents moussaka was beautiful and fragrant and that isn't to forget that portion sizes were really good (I'm 6ft4 100kg and it filled me to brim). The desserts were not to good, nothing to write home about, but honestly for the price this is an amazing little restaurant for a fun family meal.

I can't believe it has taken me this long to come back, but I will be going again with friends and family, the other restaurant Risorante Sorento will always have a place in my heart, but I think Il Mulino will be a regular place for me to go to from now on too :) (Also important to mention, both restaurants have very different Italian food, so they aren't really comparable dish vs dish.)

5* well done!

Potentially the worst meal out I have had in a long time. We were served by a girl wearing a sweatshirt and leggings who frankly already looked apologetic before we ordered. We waited a while to have our order taken . When ordering calzone we specifically asked if we could customise as mushrooms are a no go. We asked for beef , salami and cheese.. just those 3 things. When it came,it had chicken and peppers and mushroom! It was also really bland. When we pointed it out to the manager.. he picked up the plate and professed that it was stray piece of mushroom and if we found another piece he would buy us a drink. He then handed the plate back... not great. We found more mushroom! My moussaka was sloppy and clearly microwaved. It had no flavour. The cheese , at least I presume it was cheese, was tasteless and so rubbery I chewed for an age and eventually spat it out. The salad was covered in something loosely resembling pesto!?! It also came with a mound of dry tasteless rice. Really disappointing and the worst moussaka I have ever had the unfortunate circumstance to eat. It was so bad... so so so very very very bad. Lordy

For most of my time here, I was the only diner. It was a weeknight and it was wonderful. The gentleman serving me was generous and totally unartificial, and the food was fresh and well portioned. He even kindly gifted me a lovely chocolate from his ‘private reserve’ 🤣 I love that there are still Italian restaurants like this and I hope lots more people discover it.

Visited Sunday & all four of us had an excellent meal. Moussaka & lasagne were home made & delicious. The 5th member of our party was a 3 year old child. Nothing was too much & was given mac & cheese with chicken & sweetcorn added. Also child had ice cream all the meal free. The man who served us also prepared the meals & could not have been more friendly. I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant. It is not fast food so be prepared to wait a while for excellent tasty home made Food.

Me and my partner were looking for somewhere for dinner that wasn’t too expensive. This was less than a five min walk from our hotel. Upon arriving, we were greeted by very welcoming and friendly staff. Both the food and service were incredible and if we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be stopping by!
