Rice Wine Shop

Today is my first visit to the shop but I was almost ripped off for about 10 pounds. I just bought some normal food but when I paid the bill I was charged around 40 pounds. I paid it at the first time but my gut told me it was not right. When we came out of the shop, my friend and I tried to match the prices on the receipt and those on the food packages. To our surprise, there are 15 items on the receipt but we only have 10 in the bag! We turned back and asked them to check it out. After a while, they found out that they overcharged me for about 10 pounds! Remember my total spend was just around 30, almost 33% extra charge!!! If you look at the old and new receipts they gave to me, they were not even in the same format! Also the descriptions on the receipt are poorly defined. They all have the title of Japanese but no one knows which one is which. The most horrible thing is I couldn't even imagine how many people have paid the extra money just because they trust the shop and there is a 4.5+ review for it. My first experience told me that professional is the last thing you would find in the shop.

After finding their mistake, they said nothing but a simple sorry. There was no explanation let alone a compensation. The service was not Japanese-style at all, even though I heard they talking in Japanese to some customers. I am not saying all the Japanese-style business is fading away but this Rice Wine shop should definitely learn much more from their ancestors.

Shame on it.

I am a long time customer of this well-established Japanese food shop in Soho. They offer reasonable prices, friendly and helpful staff as well as reliable quality of products. All my Japanese friends also shop for their Japanese staples. I also praise their efficiency of online shopping service including fast delivery. Unlike their competitors I can talk to their staff if there’s any problem and their polite customer service staff deal with it straight away. Recently I had terrible experiences with their competitor Japanese food shop in the same area for online shopping due to the failed deliveries by DPD twice. I proudly recommend Rice Wine shop to anyone for their real Japanese service.

Cheapest Japanese grocer in central London with great selection of Japanese staples, alcohol and snacks. I’ll always pop in here at the end of a London trip to pick up Japanese sauces, pickles, snacks and beer/sake for my cupboard. Highly recommended!

Small Japanese store with lovely customer service and a good variety of food and ingredients. They tend to run out of fresh food and snacks by the end of the day, so it's best to go there early.

Been going here for many years. Most things you need for Japanese cooking you can find here. Prices are good, more affordable than Japan center. It is a small shop so be prepared to have your personal space invaded by other shoppers. Staff are very nice.

This place offers basic Japanese essentials with reasonable price, slightly cheaper than Japan Centre nearby. In fact, Japan Centre tends to sell stuffs that are just about to expire whereas this place doesn't. After feeling ripped off from JC so often, I prefer this small store these days.
