I had a new battery fitted to my gents watch, after giving it a quick glance over I noticed a strand of black rubber about 15mm long protruding from the back.
It was obvious the seal had not been refitted correctly when they had screwed the back on. I pointed this out to the sales assistant who took it into the rear of the shop. On returning, I was told that it was fine now as it had been pushed back in. I questioned about the break in the seal and was told it was just a piece of rubber and it was meant to have a split in it.??
This did not sound feasible to me as the watch was designed to be water resistant to 100mtrs.
I did not want to continue this matter with the sales assistant and so asked to speak to the manager, I just wanted to get things back on track, but to my amazement he told me that it was he who had told the sales assistant to tell me this!
But the o- ring has to be undamaged and completely seal the back of the watch I said, but he wasn't interested, I suggested fitting a new o- ring to just get the job sorted to which he replied I can fit a new o-ring but there will be a charge for it plus a fitting fee.
I refused to take up this option as I had already paid £8 to have it returned to me in this awful state.
I refused this and was promptly told to "take my watch and fook off" !!!
No, you have not just misread the last line.
I thought I was hearing things, and replied I'm sorry what did you just say,
Again, "take your watch and fook off"
I responded "this is terrible service"
Sadly it didn't get any better with my next response from him being
"Go and fook yourself"
I responded I won't be coming back in here again, to get yet one more encore of his obscene language.
I mentioned that he may well consider watching this back on his cctv to see what a fool he has made of himself, I'm sure by now you can guess his response.
Finally I would just like to add that I am not normally akin to leaving reviews as things generally seem to fall into the there or thereabouts catergory but should circumstances such as this occur I would have certainly appreciated prior warning.
He took one look at my necklace and without asking me any questions, he said “oooh the problem with this is that it’s very light weight and it will just keep breaking so you’d be better off sending it back to where you got it from.
I asked him why he said it would keep breaking and he said “because it’s lightweight and the pendant (a simple and small initial pendant which came with the necklace!) is very heavy so it’s bound to keep snapping!”
Puzzled, I explained to him that the pendant it not heavy and the reason why it has snapped is because my baby daughter had pulled on it.
It was clear to me at that point that he was making it up as he went along which did not fill me with confidence and based on that, I had already at that point decided this was not the jewellers I was going to leave my necklace with.
Also, he was clearly embarrassed because of his snotty response (with a matching look) of “I’m just trying to help you here!”.
I told him I was just telling him how it snapped but it’s not a problem, I would take it somewhere else.
The only reason I didn’t give a 1 star rating was because the female member of staff who very briefly dealt with me at the start and end was pleasant and polite.
Unfortunately, our recent experience hasn't been good.
We took my husbands replacement silver wedding ring in for re-sizing, back in March. Due to the lock down we appreciated, it wouldn't be done until they re opened.
So when we rang to ask, they seemed unable to tell us anything about the ring and my husband rang 3 times to ask and in the end went into the shop 2 weeks ago.
He was told the it was impossible to re-size the ring, and it couldn't be done!
We were very unhappy and contacted a J. A. Woodroffe in Shrewsbury.
We are pleased to say their silversmith had no issue and the wedding ring was re-sized and looks perfect. They did not understand why we were told it couldn't be done, as in their view it was an easy job!
We will never be using Dodington again.
Would not recommend. Dissapoing as we always try to use local shops!
I initially popped into Dodingtons to enquire whether they would be able to help me. I was looking for a simple design for both stones and something that wouldn't cost the earth to do. After my first experience with the other jeweller, I was extremely nervous and really wanted to make sure it was done right. The staff in Dodingtons listened to me, talked me through the process, discussed possible designs and made me feel at ease immediately. They texted me when the quote for pricing was ready, and when the ring and pendant were ready to collect. I couldn't believe how quick they had managed it either!
I was so happy with both pieces of jewellery! They were amazing, complimented both stones and I am so excited to wear them. I would definitely go back to Dodingtons. Thank you so much to the team.
