Now the only laundrette left in the town it has been given a lick of new paint and the lighting improved. The machines have been refurbished with new dryers, the opening hours have been extended at the beginning and at the end of the day. All machines are well maintained, and repairs done promptly and there is even a small area to sit away from the washing machines!
Located on a regular bus route between the town centre and the hospital, it is also a short walk from the back of the railway station and there is on-street parking in adjacent residential roads.
Should you forget your washing power, there is a washing powder dispenser (50p per shot) and two convenience shops nearby for a bigger range of washing power and conditioner.
In these current days of using your debit card for most things you will need one pound and twenty pence coins. The smaller machines currently cost £4.40, the medium size machine currently costs £6.00 and the larger machine currently costs £8.00. The driers take all coins and you currently get 10 minutes for £1.00. The prices are competitive with other laundrettes..
Due to the risk of vandalism unfortunately the owners cannot install a change machine but are always willing to provide change on their regular visits to the laundrette.
There are clear instructions of how to use the machines and giving expected washing and drying times. Should things go wrong there is an emergency telephone number, which works, and they even respond to any messages!
Support this essential facility – because the next time your washing machine or drier breaks down it might not be there to rescue you!
UPDATE: 28-11-20
They now have a "change" machine. The machine takes £20, £10 and £5 notes and gives change in £1 coins. Thanks.
To top it all off, the clothes did not clean properly and still smelt like worn clothes and they came out of all the machines dripping wet; so clearly the rinse cycle is rubbish...
Basically a couple of hours and £20 something down and I wished I had gone elsewhere...You should too.
Edit - Just seen the laughable response from the owner. I said it wasn't working properly.. not wasn't working. .. I cold have dried it faster by blowing on it.. and yes there was rubbish all over the floor,.. flyers,.. crumbs litter and powder all over the tops of the machines and dust and hair.. and I used the machine correctly.. you are flat out lying..yes I put the liquid in for the pre-wash directly.. but that has worked in EVERY laundromat I have ever used.. or is that why my clothes came out smelling like they had been in a chip shop fryer!? .
2nd Edit - Forgot to mention the guy with his hand down his open trousers, who greated me when I entered by begging for money... whilst sat there eating a bag of corner shop junk food. It took a couple of increasingly aggressive "F" offs' from me before he shut up.
Doesn't take card payments (most machines only take specific numbers of £1 coins) but there is a machine to change notes into coins.
There are small, large and XL washing machines, plus separate dryers. There's also a machine selling washing powder in case you forgot your own.
When I went in it was £6 for one wash in a large machine and £1 per 10 minutes in the dryer. Everything worked well, zero problems.
