We had delays at the start where nobody picked up the file for 6 months. Emails, phone calls and going down in person got us nowhere. I had to write a letter of complaint citing the ombudsman before we got a new solicitor on the case and a slight reduction in our final bill by way of apology.
We have had documents sent to the wrong address... not sure why, and we were lucky here because they were sent to a friend around the corner who told us they had our mail.
We had been waiting for distribution of our mums estate for almost two months. There had been no word from them as to what the delay was. From our point of view, we were promised settlement and distribution of funds but it simply did not happen. We started to worry that the company simply did not have the funds anymore or that they were about to go into administration and we would lose our mums money. In the end it turned out to be a technicality between our solicitor and the finance department; not that we were aware of any of this at the time
I had to resort to complaining, threatening them with court action, emailing the directors, writing to the papers. It all got very stressful, when a simple phone call or email explaining the situation would have smoothed everything over.
In the end I had an email from their compliance officer, Danielle. Within 24 hours, she had looked at our file, found the problem, instructed our solicitor and the finance department on what to do and authorised same day payment. Whatever my opinions about this company are, I can't fault Danielle.
In summary, we had a very difficult time with this company. I found their lack of communication and the time it took to sort out this matter to be the biggest cause of frustration. I recognise that we were in difficult times when my mum died. She died in a care home, with dementia, after being in hospital with broken limbs from falling. We were not allowed to be with her in her final days and she had none of her family around her when she died. In my opinion, there needed to be a little empathy, understanding and better communication throughout. In the end, that's really all we asked. I hope they take on board these comments so that they may improve their service for future clients.
I can’t stress this enough.
My Mum died last June and we are still fighting to get the estate finalized. There is absolutely zero communication from the company, we are having to chase continually. They have had my Mums funds sat in their bank earning interest, totally disgusting. Then we get hit with an extortionate invoice for the work they have completed. They’ve done absolutely nothing.
Avoid at all costs!!!!!
Reading the reviews we aren’t alone in our complaint. Many others are experiencing the same issue. Think how much profit this company is making holding onto loved ones inheritance!
All you get is a automatic reply to your review saying contact customer services. NOT ACCEPTABLE
Your company is a disgrace!!!!!
Update :
Nicky from the social media team has been amazing going above and beyond to try and help us. She is a credit to Right Legal.
We are still trying to settle the probate and now 12 months later they have decided they want more money from us even though we were quoted a cost!!!!
Social media team was supposed to get involved as we put messages on Facebook, but still no calls returned or promises fulfilled.
Simple tasks such as arranging final gas and electricity bills seem impossible for this company.
Please do not use them.
Update 8th November 2022;
We are now in regular contact with Right Legal Group / Simpson's Solicitors. This is largely due to the efforts of Nicky in their social media team who has been amazing and has gone above and beyond to try to help us (including contacting us over the weekend)
Nicky is a credit to Right Legal, and understands what Customer Service actually means.
We are however still trying to settle the probate, although we seem to be getting somewhere. But now, after 12 months, they have told us that they are expecting us to pay more than we were originally quoted!
Absolutely awful service
My father passed away on 23 Sep 2021 and we are yet to settle his estate.
We met with the local solicitors on 7 Oct 2021 and then all details were passed to Right probate in Derby.
On 28 Oct 21 we received a letter of summary which although addressed to us was all the financial details of some else's estate. How wrong can that be, not just in data protection terms but also personal distress, especially for my 86 year old mother.
After the appointment of another probate officer, as I refused to deal with the original one, it is still not resolved. It does not seem the probate process can be managed at distant with a company that does not take responsibility or care of the very personal and distressing matter of probate. I have now officially complained to Right probate having chased them by phone/email regularly since they had the case. What more can I do? Thank goodness I have managed to shield my mother from this ineffective and less than competent company. I appreciate my father's estate was not large and therefore their fee will not be substantial but this should not impact on the level of service they provide.
The emotional distress cause by their delays, errors and lack of empathy and care could have been reduced if they acted in a timely, professionally and correct manner.
Update - it is now 26 Jan 2023
and the trust has still not been resolved.
