I was advised to follow a certain path regarding divorce. I assumed that once I had given the go ahead and notice/letters were exchanged with the other party that a legal process was in place. Due to the other party not accepting conditions they requested, they advised to change direction. During this time a filed petition landed on my doorstep from the other party! I was completely under the impression that they had already started legal proceedings and that this was not possible. I would've filed straight away myself without a solicitors if this had been the case.
The advise given was extremely poor, achieved absolutely nothing and negativily impacted my case. Their arguement was that the other party has been underhand and not followed a best practice niceity! I find this completely inexcusable, as I was paying to be legally protected by them not play jolly nicieties in a high risk case involving financial and emotional abuse (that they were fully aware of). It was their job to properly navigate this case taking into acccount the risk factors.
In a meeting raising these complaints they turned on me stating that they had provided lots of free advise in the (supposedly free) induction meeting and during this complaint session. They later emailed stating that they would refund the remaining £600 and 'as a gesture of goodwill' would also refund the £400. I do not believe this was a gesture of goodwill - I question why a solicitors who know their rights and have nothing to gain by refunding this to me would do this unless they had made an error in their practice and advise to me.
I also spoke with Fay initially regarding child matters. I found her very cold and insensitive, and I actually nearly walked out of the session after the first ten miniutes as I felt an element of being intimedated and her rudely talking down to me. She ended the meeting telling to me to 'toddler off and submit the court form and then come back to me when you get a court date'. 'Toddle off'?!! I am a 38 year old professional not a 10 year old! I am also a Mother of three young children who has had a very differcult 7yrs in a not very nice relationship - if you are also a Mother, I highly recommend that you stay well clear of this solicitors.
If like myself you are also in need of budgeting and do not have endless funds to just be flitted away without your knowledge or consent, then also do not use this solicitors. They are out to do as little as possible for your money.
I ended up representing myself in a first court hearing, and in an ironic twist had a long conversation with the other parties solicitor. She was actually very helpful and guided me within reason to advise sources so that the best outcome could be reached for the children. She also advised that some solicitors offer a 'pay as you go service' so you are not at risk of being rapidly bled dry and can manage your own funds instead of them being in the bank account of a solicitor (no doubt gaining them interest!). She was a much more ethical solicitor in her approach - something these solicitors most definately were not, and offered detrimental poor advise along with that. Stay clear!!
