Harris and Louise are great hosts (they live in the adjacent Old Manse), and the cottages are lovely - they're well equipped and comfortable, in a very quiet location that's handy for both the coast, the border towns, and the beautiful Lammermuir hills.
The A1 is just a handful of miles away, so it's quick and easy to get to places like Edinburgh and Alnwick, or Newcastle. Or, if you prefer, there are loads of back roads to explore where there's little or no traffic. Wildlife is plentiful, especially for birders, the Farne Islands being a particular bonus.
Nearby Berwick-upon-Tweed is a good place to shop for essentials. But should also be visited for an evening stroll around the walls. Do go to Craister, Banburgh Castle, Barter Books at Alnwick (great food!), and St Abbs for great coastal walks and Cullen Skink (delicious fish stew at the cafe by the harbour).

Gable end cottage was the perfect place to stay for five days with my parents and our two dogs. The garden was secure, which is great, as my little terrier is an escape artist. I enjoyed the privacy and tranquility in the garden. The dogs LOVED it. I stayed in a single bed which was absolutely fine, although, mind your head if you are tall like me. The head bumping only adds to the cottages charm. I cannot fault it. This beautiful home was spotless, cosy and warm, with everything you need to cook your own meals. After living in a busy town for most of my life, this was the perfect remedy to the hustle and bustle.

Lovely cottage, beautiful location and spotlessly clean. A very relaxing and comfortable place to stay.
