Remember having a great time at AAC Middle Wallop in 1984 with my friend Maj JJ Thompson who was stationed there at that time and showed me around the place.

This is a military base, so you can’t go in, you can visit the museum of army flying which is just next door.

We stopped at the museum on our way back from a short break in Salisbury and glad we did, spent an informative couple of hours learning about the history of British Army Aviation, well worth a visit & plenty to see for both young & old.

I have been coming to Middle Wallop since 1978, when I did my AAC trade training followed by a posting to Hildeshiem Germany.

In 1985 I returned after passing the test for pilot at RAF Biggin Hill to complete my co-pilots course. Followed by a posting to Netheravon which is just up the road, and was the home of the Royal Flying Corps.

I then flew with many pilots around the world, like Hong Kong, Kenya, Singapore and Germany again.

Finishing with six years in Northern Ireland flying fixed wing day VMC and night VMC and both day and night IMC.

Today we are going to the museum which has many of the aircraft types that I have flown.
