Kudos to the fabulous Barbara who greeted and entertained us, I'm sure that she could hold her own in a duet with the function band that provided background entertainment.
Service was very good and the waiters were attentive, efficient and apologetic (oysters were off the menu).
It was a special Valentine's Day set menu and it all looked appertizing.
My beetroot cured salmon with quail eggs was divine and my wife's foie gras was smooth and flavourfull. My beef Wellington was one of the best that I have eaten; slightly pink and melted in the mouth.
Only gripes:
The menu didn't specify that the monkfish came with a tasty looking langustine on the side; my wife is mildly alergic to crustaceans. The waiter assured us that none was in the sauce so we just moved it onto my plate (mmmmm tasty).
Desert: I had the lemon tart which came with a strawberry sorbet and my wife had the Chocolate truffle with the raspberry sorbet.
My strawberry sorbet was soft and creamy as a sorbet should be. My wife's raspberry sorbet was not. It was glistening with ice crystals and you could tap it with a spoon without making a dent in it; it had obviously melted at some point and then refrozen.
We brought it to the waiters attention; not as a complaint but as a suggestion that it not be served to other patrons as it spoiled what would have been an excellent desert.
The waiter hurried off to the kitchen and soon returned and stated that "the kitchen agrees that the raspberry sorbet was below par".
After five minutes I was dismayed to see a procession of waiters serving the very same desert with ice crystals glistening from the sorbet to unsuspecting patrons; perhaps some people like crunchy watery sorbet?
All in all it was a good experience and I will visit again if only to try the haggis scotch egg from the a la carte menu.
The food was amazing, we ordered the 2/3course set lunch. As you can see from pictures the food does taste as it looks.
Our food was delicious, well presented. We had starter and main, we're too full to fit in a sweet!
If you're in the area would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant.
