Grade II Listed historic cinema retains some original and later period fabric and decor.
Some questionable recent foyer and exterior cladding refurbishments add little to the appearance or mystique.
Wheelchair friendly, also hosting community and various specialist events/screenings.
Cosy bijou cafe/bar leads into a moderately comfortable auditorium.
Prices be reasonable in this distinctive and ambient setting.

Such a beautiful cinema, built at the turn of the 20th century in 1910. It's intimate and ornate, ethical too, with stunning features in the auditorium on the first floor. The seats are comfy and it all feels just like home. Albeit an understated home of the very highest calibre! Meanwhile make sure you drop in to the cafe-bar - also on the first floor, overlooking the High Road - before the film starts and have a locally-sourced coffee, tea, or a cheeky glass of wine, or perhaps an Italian gelato? They have it all at the Phoenix and you will not be disappointed!

The Phoenix Cinema is one of the oldest continuously running cinemas in the UK, having reinvented itself many times over to become the beautiful and beloved independent community cinema it is today.

Screening new releases, world cinema, classics, independents and live arts, it also hosts festivals, Q & A's, a film studies programme and tours.

The art deco building, especially the gorgeous auditorium and the upstairs cafe with a unique specially gifted stained glass window and balcony - which is lovely to sit and sip drinks on with a view over the High road - is a worth a visit in itself.

It is run as a charity, supported entirely by the public. A gem that needs fostering and support to be preserved and kept as the gift that is for the London community, it offers memberships which are a drop in the bucket and which pay for themselves with the offer of free tickets. So lovely, part of my personal journey and history, just as for many others.

Visited the Phoenix Cinema to watch Casablanca today. The cinema is a gorgeous looking, quaint little cinema that looks like it hadn't changed in years.
There are a selection of drinks and snacks to meet all needs and they also offer free water if you desire it.
The seats were incredibly comfy and plenty of leg room.
I've lived in North London for 5 years years and I'm ashamed to say this is my first visit to the Phoenix but it won't be my last.

Love this place, a proper old school quaint cinema, a world away from the sterile, corporate, money grabbing chains. Support these places or forever be at the mercy of the pick n mix robbin' corporates...

Britain’s oldest purpose built cinema delivers every time. We watched Nomadland here yesterday and some films are just made for the big screen. So much crying in the dark. The top floor bar is sadly still closed. But the process felt very Covid safe and well organised. Staff are always lovely.

The best cinema in London. Great film with a lovely Gin & Tonic in the beautiful auditorium, with a round of applause at the end. Perfect.
