Gala Theatre & Cinema

Got tickets for the comedy store. Venue was lovely, comfortable seats with plenty of room. Good selection of drinks available at the bar very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend the venue and definitely will be going to see the comedy store again

So far only had good experiences here. My kids amd I loved the panto here last year and also a smaller play in one if the studios. Absolutely love the cinema down stairs, much more affordable in terms of popcorn, and is always less stress than the regular cinema. Staff always helpful and friendly and facilities kept to a high standard of cleanliness.

Gala Theatre is a great venue in the centre of Durham. I went to two events as part of the Durham Book Festival. The seats are comfy and plenty of space. Good view of the stage. Box office and other staff helpful and friendly. Bar / cafe area does get crowded and sometimes a bit of a bottleneck getting through. The only thing that could be improved is the toilets. Parking is convenient in walkergate.

We visited here in October during the Durham Book Festival (2022). We were there for a book launch Q&A with two debut novelists. The event was really interesting and the venue, for what little we saw of it, seemed very welcoming. 🙂 It was modern, clean and bright.

Great venue, we watched a pantomime there and it was brilliant, the front of house staff were very friendly and welcoming. Booster seats are available for the kids. Would definitely go again.

Visited the gala with my family Tuesday 28th December 2022 to see the pantomime performance of Sleeping Beauty. What a lovely show to share with the family. Nicely written, well performed, and fantastic engagement with the audience. Absolutely loved it with a special mention to the floor manageress covering the pop corn stand lovely customer service and exceptional performances from Hester the Jester and Sammy the dog. Brilliant! I'd definitely go again.

The current (Christmas 2022) panto is a must-see event. It is very well written and most definitely very well performed, with all the classic slapstick mayhem comedy and more. It's got more than enough story and magic for the kids to get involved.
The music is arranged and directed to perfection, not to mention the musician's skill in their performance. This story has an excellent twist to an old classic.
I am not going to say anything about the performances. You will have to go and see it for yourself. I loved it, as will you and your kids.
If anyone has anything bad to say about this panto, I can only think they have not seen it or have sour grapes.

Arrived at the gala theatre for Sleeping beauty christmas panto.
Parking was great. We parked quite quickly in the walker gate car park and took the lift straight to the theatre. The friendly staff guided us to the stalls we needed to be at. The bar was a little over priced but that's to be expected. Everyone in attendance was in good spirits. Most families wearing their Christmas jumpers.
We had middle seats six rows back from the stage. Very good place to sit exept the lights at the start were right in out eye line but thankfully they didn't stay thst way.
The performance was awesome. My daughter is a bit of a Tom boy so isn't into fairy tales like sleeping beauty but this was hilarious for all including her. The actors and dancers were great. We had a brilliant time there and would definitely recommend panto here. And will definitely come again
