I paid for the additional insurance and was in ongoing communication with my move manager. Circa 150 boxes takes a long time to unpack, especially as there were issues and that I was looking for one box in particular. Even harder when you paid for a packing service so didn’t pack yourself too!
As I didn’t unpack all of them within 7 days, and reported the missing one 48hours outside of that time frame, the insurance is invalid. Pickfords giving me computer says no and the insurance company won’t even respond to my emails to allow me to complain or appeal.
The manager at Pickfords I have been escalated too told me that if I wanted an extension then I needed to tell them before I moved, before a single item had been packed. Now, I personally can’t see into the future and I don’t know anyone who can but apparently that’s what you need to be able to do.
Had it taken me months to unpack without a word to Pickfords and then come back to say there was a box missing I could understand but that isn’t the case, there is no sensible application of the policy. The insurance is a complete scam and not fit for purpose. It should be tiered to how many boxes have been moved for the time frame you have.
Move Team - lovely.
Move manager- great.
Packing and move service mostly fine - few damages and mispacked items. One missing box.
Insurance - only there for Pickfords not for you and completely unfit for purpose. I would be really interested to understand the financial arrangement and policy pricing between Centry Services and Pickfords. Hugely expensive and when you do have something missing, you can’t use it. The missing box in question had lots of things in but mostly shoes and boots in, some that were gifts and it comes to a significant amount to replace them. I imagine this is more the issue as if it was a box of something cheap I think this process would be more flexible.
In the interest of being transparent - the insurance company will allow me to claim for a foam rug that was folded into a box rather than rolled, and now cannot be used. That’s because I found said damaged play rug within 7 days :)
