The Collection

Fantastic free to enter museum, located in the middle of the city just down from the cathedral. Beautiful, open and spacious building containing multiple rooms with various installations, artist's work and historical pieces. The main room is filled with all kinds of artifacts and tells the story of Lincolnshire throughout the ages, lots to read and look at. A brilliant and interesting way to find out more about the county. Highly recommended.

Collection: very interesting building with temporary exhibits and a very fascinating archaeology display with interesting curios and displays about how they research this. Kid friendly activities also present with a playroom. Cafe is present too but the lunch options are confined to the soup of the day (apparently kitchen closed due to covid).

Usher Gallery: interesting display of art, antiques, clocks & ceramics. Interesting things on display include a long case clock with its face removed to show a wooden mechanism & a mouldy picnic on display to illustrate increasing food demand!

Really lovely visit to the collection today lovely exhibit really showing the breadth of history effecting Lynn

Really enjoyed the interactive microbe show lots of fun playing with the installation creating patterns with light and our own bodies!

Cool to have such curated collections such a short distance from the castle and Cathedral

Cafe on site is absolutely lovely and the toilets were very inclusive would recommend!

Cafe was reasonably priced and server was very cheerful. The exhibits were interesting and it's not so big that you get fed up. Liked that the majority of things were found locally, made it kind of special. It was quite cold so we left sooner than we perhaps would have had the air con not been up so high. Would recommend.

A nice little museum with an art gallery nearby. I visited The Collection with my children to experience the Micro World exhibition. This exhibit was not as good, in my opinion, as the advert made it out to be. However, the children enjoyed it and had great fun in the rest of the museum following and operating the tour guide robot.

The art gallery was nice too. We weren't there long but we did get to see everything.

Have been to The Collection twice recently. Once to view exhibits - really nicely set out through the ages - and once to hear a talk by Alexander McCall Smith in the Auditorium. A brilliant evening out. I will be looking to see any more upcoming events held at this venue. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the restaurant served drinks and a variety of snacks. Definitely a place I would recommend but check the opening days before turning up. If your chosen day coincides with the Usher Gallery being open you can have a double experience as they are in close proximity (I missed out as it was closed the day I went to The Collection).

Really well designed modern exhibition space, fully accessible for wheelchairs and scooters. Fascinating and well displayed archaeological items with clear contextual explanation. Separate Usher gallery displays paintings, ceramics and sculpture with Grayson Perry, L.S. Lowry, Turner, Watts etc. represented. Lovely staff.

Small free play centre at entrance is a real gem, toys and activities for play, three year old loves it. Museum part is worth a look, has remained the same for years, we walk round pretty fast but some nice points of interest, some effort like dress up to get kids interested and involved, puzzles and drawing activities also dotted about. Small gift shop is worthy a look, some nice unique gift options. Cafe is also reasonable and lovely atmosphere all round, car parking can be troubling, I recomend 2 hours which is about 3.50 I think, opposite the entrance. Or more parking places near by with short walk. Disability free parking about 4 minute walk away.
