Quite a surprise find in Wimbledon and I loved the location and it's surroundings. It's a bit of a walk if your are taking the public transport but you get to enjoy nature. The windmill is no longer in operation but has a will maintained museum run by good staff. I learnt a lot about windmills during my trip - tools used to make windmills in the early days, different types of windmills, where to find them in the UK, history of windmills and also miniature replicas of many windmills.
Upstairs you can see actual parts of old windmills and grind some grain on stone for fun. You will also find interesting articles and a timeline view of the Wimbledon windmill (it was converted into a house after it was no longer operational) We couldn't go up to the top section as it is a small space and you have to climb up narrow stairs. Admission was free when we went over the weekend but they do have donation boxes and people can volunteer to help run the place.

If you are around, pop in Windmill Museum. With windmill being restored to its original beauty not long ago, the museum is cosy, very informative and allows kids to feel and try grinding grains into flour manually. Tiny room of a woman is dragging attention too, there is a button to launch audio guide and feel the atmosphere of this room original habitat.
Museum is free entry (at least now) and friendly volunteers help to run it, so any donation or purchases are welcomed there.

SPOILER ALERT!!! Dont look at my pictures if you dont want to know what is inside. You can walk around in a few minutes. Its a tiny place and it was free. Well it was free on bank holiday. I liked it

Wimbledon Windmill is a Grade II* listed windmill situated on Wimbledon Common in the London Borough of Merton in the west of South London, and is preserved as a museum. Closed as of December 2020. Best check via telephone for possible opening times.

Lovely countryside walks nearby and a café (which is open as of December 2nd 2020).
Golf course nearby too. Not at all signposted so know how to get there beforehand.

Nothing much to see or do at the windmill museum but the scenery and nature around it is worth visiting, or painting :)

The opening hours is ridiculous for a Saturday 1-5, most people arrive to see it and go for a walk around putney heath. We didn't get to see it. Yet on Sunday, it is 11-?? Forgot

Open at weekends.
A wonderful place to visit to learn about the history of windmills. All models are handmade, a labour of love.
The staff there have a great wealth of knowledge, I really enjoyed going there and will be visiting again
