Wonderful small place that exhibits the history of pre- and early cinema. Precious collection but also dynamic student’s curations. Friendly staff.

We visited as part of a University open day, it's quite a small museum but they have a large catalogued collection behind the scenes so if you visit again after a period of time there will be different displays as the Film Students will prepare differing collections.

It is open to the public (check times online) so if you are interested in film culture and are in the area, visiting is a must.

This is a small museum full of cinematic related items (e.g magazines, promotional items). We spent about 30 mins there, which was long enough. I think I was expecting more - maybe film clips? Overall I would only recommend it to someone who really loves the history of movies.

Museum dedicated to cinema and different types of film making.

Split over 2 levels and inside the university of Exeter, this museum is full of film memorabilia from different decades and genres.

Covering films from Shaun of the dead, Alice in wonderland, black panther to comrades, they have a great selection of cinema items, including ushers touches, note books and old ticket rolls.

Downstairs there is more of an interactive room, with view finders, shadow makers, 3D scenes & spinning illusion moving picture makers.

The curator was also on hand to talk us through the displays, he was very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions.

The museum is free and quite small, but if you are a big film fan, you could easily spend a couple of hours here, looking at the displays and getting lost in the information.

This cinema museum is a absolute must, great way of showing things about the moving picture, the tricks and the way you see cinema for the way it is today. Please do your self a favour go here.

Tiny but cute collection with surprisingly good items from 'non-Western' cultures. Really friendly curator. Not a fan of audiotours and my favourite thing about museums is reading the descriptions next to items, so just getting a few words on each piece here is a bit unsatisfying. 😂 But it's free and right on campus!!

Definitely worth a visit if you're seriously interested in film history. It's fairly small, based around a bequest by Bill Douglas to the University of Exeter. To display as much as possible, the exhibit cases are a bit crowded but the items are of great interest. The second gallery has a good exhibition of pre-film moving image makers. Nice people in charge, and not too far to walk from the city centre (we did, ages 73 and 76).
