"Leper House Farm, 0.5m N, is an 'L'-shaped, timber-framed building of 1716 clad in old red brick. It is connected to the church by an ancient pathway. Tradition has it that lepers were blessed by the priest and then made their way down the hill, and across Moat Brook, to bathe in the sulphurous waters of the Lepers' Well (SJ 870048). The well is still there a hundred yards or so down the lane from the present Leper House, in the direction of Gunstone. It stands beside the road, protected by an oak fence and overhung bushes. There are stone steps leading down to the waters. The circular well walls are bricked around and measure about five feet across. Note the hedges. There are many species of plants in them - ivy, holly, hawthorn, oak etc. - a sure sign of considerable age. In the late 17th Century the old Leper House was replaced by the Brimstone Alehouse, where ale was brewed using water from the Lepers' Well."
