Enchanting cemetery with beautiful hand crafted sculptures. Lovely volunteers who keep the cemetery paths mowed and talk you through the history in the Chapel. Take your camera as there is plenty of wild insects, flowers & birds as well as interesting artifacts. Tip; Take some money to donate, buy some honey or small wooden gifts.

I went there on one of their open days, so there was people around to tell you about the history of the place, which I have to say if absolutely fascinating. They also had tea and cake on sale and someone giving talks about the bees. I don't know if this happens every Sunday that they open. Anyway, it's an amazing urban reserve. A touch of quiteness, a place for nature to do it's thing, right in the middle of a housing estate on the edge of a city. A beautifully calming place where you can sit and reflect. I really enjoyed and have a lot of administration for the work the gentleman had done reaserching and recording the history. The coffee cake was lovely and both pieces found their way home, so hubby was very appreciative. Thank you

Incredible history behind this out of the way location. really fascinating and free to go have a look at and on your way back to town there are some stunning views of the cathedral you would never see any other time. great to take your dog to even though not allowed off in the cemetery, there is plenty of off lead walking on the return back to Wells. Definitely go have a look and learn something new and support the volunteers

Local history at it's best, open on Sundays/see table. We often take guests as part of walk round area. Also local honey for sale.
Minus1 star for volunteer chap who, although very knowledgeable, engaging humorous and kind to give his time etc, was a bit embarrassingly confrontational asking for donation when we weren't expecting that and didn't have any cash-so possibly be prepared for that!!

A fascinating and unique site, certainly the only one of its kind in the South West. Saved from destruction and cared for in trust by a remarkable group of volunteers, it can be appreciated as a place of burial, an exposition of the heritage relating to the Mendip Hospital (formerly the Somerset and Bath Lunatic Asylum) or simply as peaceful green space.
Generally only open to visitors on Sunday, but you can volunteer to help maintain the space on Thurdays.
