I studied with Stephen for many years. Through both school and private lessons later on. Through his practical and theoretical expertise, Stephen helped me to become the musician and guitarist I am today. If it wasn't for the amazing tutorship, kind words and motivation he gave me, I wouldn't be nearing two decades of guitar playing today.

I highly recommend Stephen Caswell to anybody who wishes to learn guitar or build on their existing knowledge of guitar playing. Whether young or old. Whether new or experienced. Stephen has something that can and will help you hone and shape your skills as a musician.

I am a 57 year old learning the piano. Stephen is kind, supportive and structured and always picks me up when I’m doubting myself. Me and my son Luke love him

Stephen has patiently guided me through learning the classical guitar for a few years now. I started to learn the guitar late in life. I wouldn’t have made the progress I have if it wasn’t for Stephen’s patience, good humour, nudging when necessary, feedback on technique, finding pieces of music that test my ability (and sometimes my patience because I’m a grumpy old man) and his continual support. Thank you Stephen.

I started private guitar lessons with Stephen as a teenager more than 40 years ago. Looking back, I must have been an infuriating student, but he patiently coached me through RSM grades, and entered me into local guitar competitions. Occasionally we would chat while strolling around his garden, sipping a cup of tea as we did. Study and work overseas sadly brought an end to those wonderful times, but we kept in touch and over the past couple of years, Stephen kindly offered to help me “rediscover” the instrument he helped me fall in love with all those years ago. This recent (remote) reuniting reminded me of something that perhaps is unique about Stephen: To call him a “guitar teacher,” even a “music teacher,” is a disservice (though he is undoubtedly and unreservedly both). I learned many other important life skills from Stephen, not least patience and perseverance, and something else which is not so easy to label, but ultimately would probably have provided him with a decent side-business as a motivational coach. Stephen and his equally talented wife, Judith, came to my 18th birthday party, armed with two pieces of music that I have treasured to this day (and one of which Stephen recently coached me through despite my own technical limitations). I can’t recommend Stephen enough – and have done so in the past to others who speak as highly as I do about his teaching brilliance, broad musical and technical knowledge and personable approach to putting them into practice. I once stopped playing the guitar and Stephen told me I would take it up again. He was right. That I would do so under him is testimony to his wonderful tutelage. Forty-odd years on, and still highly recommended.
