The process whilst entering the club was completely over the top and un like anything I have experienced in Cheltenham. Firstly I was asked how much I had to drink (I was sober and had only had about 3 or 4 pints but was behaving in a civilised manner). Then I was patted down/searched. I had 2 ciders in my pocket as had come streight from a bring your own Indian. The bouncer was reasonable about this and agreed to hold onto them and give them back when I left.
A lady bouncer then used a metal detector all over my body. I was told that because my jacket had a hood I would have to pay to put it in the cloak room. All the bouncers were wearing cameras as well.
Now considering how small Tamworth is, and I am not aware of any terror threats that have occurred here, I am led to think that the entry procedures are more for profit than for customer safety.
Because of my jacket having a hood that was £2 to have it in the cloak room. The entry price was £5 each so they have already made £12 before you have gone anywhere near the bar.
The lady Manning the entry desk was over the top also. I paid the £10 total for the 2 of us and she asked if I wanted the receipt. I said no but then said actually I'd have it in case I went out the club and returned she look at me like I was mental in thinking that I could possibly return later in the night to the club that I had paid to enter.
The lady Manning the cloakroom was equally as surly and had a face like a slapped...
We then go to the bar and wait ages to buy drinks but to be fair this happens everywhere on a Saturday night . What did annoy me was that of the 4 draft beer taps they told me none were available. Well 4 beer taps would not all break at the same time so again I'm led to believe they do this just as another device to milk some more money out of you as bottles are usually more expensive than draught. She didn't say they were broken or out of order she said "were not doing them".
The music was below average and considering the top floor seemed to be the floor for "current" music I found it not very current at all.
Considering how strict the entry procedures were I was interested to see the number of kids in there who were obviously underage. On visual inspection to me many girls and some boys looked about 16/17 years old.
On leaving the club the same woman that was Manning the doors on the way in was vile and told me "go out that way" in an abrupt and surly manner. When I mentioned I would like my ciders back she was abrupt.
In summary this club is the only "club" in Tamworth for this reason they are pretentious in thinking they can treat people in a poor manner because no one has any where else they can go clubbing with out going to Birmingham. The security processes seen to be more about making money out of people than crime prevention and public safety. The bouncers act like their club is some sort of critically eclaimed Ibiza super club and the club are massaging the drinks offering to optimise profit. The bouncers are speaking to every customer like they are a drink criminal and don't appreciate that maybe some of the punters could be sober and civilised.
The club shuts at 4am so you are only getting limited time for your £5 entry. I don't mind paying if it's going to be a good experience. The bouncer Manning the smoking area told me the security measures were because it is a "really big club" well I don't think so. In Cheltenham there are many much bigger clubs with much more friendly bouncers and entry procedures. This is not London or a crime hot spot why are you using over the top security?
We left the club about 90 minutes after entering it's not great like the pretentious staff seem to think it is. Don't waste your money.
