Covid struck and then when we returned to the offices, they got rid of the cleaners saying that they were uncomfortable going into the offices. So we were then emptying bins and hoovering and cleaning our office daily. No financial discount was given for this change. Due everyone emptying their own bins, they deposited these in the communal kitchen bin. Snotty emails were then sent by the building Manager that rodents were found in the kitchen and it was unacceptable for us to put the rubbish in the communal bins and told to take it to the skips outside. I politely suggested that the overflowing bins was a result of the lack of office cleaners and perhaps Tony (the building manager) could just buy an extra bin to put in the kitchen which would resolve the issue. This suggestion was quickly disregarded as all suggestions subsequently were with other issues that arose. It was his way and no other option would ever be consider- and of course it was never their fault!
By the time it came to leaving the building once the contract had expired, I already knew that the building manager was going to try and add in extra costs – and he didn’t let me down. Professional carpet cleaning (the carpets we awful when we moved in) and we had been hoovering our own carpets for months, cleaning costs (apparently the savings he’d made wasn’t enough for the previous few months), it took them 1 week repaint the walls which was only painted the year before, and so they charged an additional 7 days rent to cover the missing rent (the building is practically empty by this point so no rent would have been lost as they could even fill the empty offices). Finally, I tired to reason with the building manager and he kept emailing back to say he’s trying to be amicable – he wasn’t being amicable – he wanted us to agree to all his outrageous extra costs and if I disagreed then I wasn’t being amicable, but if he didn’t agree with my points – then yet again I wasn’t being amicable.
If you want a cheap office then by all means consider letting offices here. BUT be aware that in my view its unlikely to be an enjoyable experience, there will be extra costs coming off your deposit that you wont agree to (and only by going to court will get back in my view). There’s so many nice offices at reasonable costs right now, that there should be no reason for this building to be a consideration.
