Sid Liyanage

I am a training ophthalmologist at Bristol eye hospital. I required Dr Liyanage's assistance for a complicated cataract operation and the patient obtained an outstanding outcome. Dr Liyanage is an excellent surgeon and highly recommended!

Despite my cataract operation being hugely complicated by an old eye injury, Mr Liyange (Sid) worked his magic to achieve the best possible outcome.
Throughout my time under is care, I was kept fully informed each step of the way. I am extremely grateful for his professionalism, skill and conscientious dedication.

I had lens replacement surgery in both eyes by Sid Liyanage in 2021. My eyesight is now better than it has ever been and for the first time since childhood I do not require specs or contacts for distance vision and can judge distances and angles much better when driving and doing sports.

Sid’s medical care and surgical skills are both excellent. He is very approachable and explains medical details and treatment options very clearly to his patients giving them plenty of time to ask questions.

I am very grateful to Mr Liyanage for saving the sight in my right eye. Following an unexpected retinal detachment in August, I was extremely fortunate to be seen by Mr Liyanage who immediately operated and very successfully re-attached the retina. In a further operation in November, he replaced the lens in that eye from which I now have amazing clarity of vision. This is a wonderful outcome for me.

The retinal detachment was an alarming and frightening experience but Sid is a very calm, reassuring and conscientious man as well as being an excellent surgeon. I recommend him unreservedly.

Sid has recently performed very successful cataract surgery on my right eye. I had been apprehensive as I have limited vision in my left eye but he was very understanding and explained possible risks and benefits clearly and unhurriedly. Post-operative contacts and appointments have also been excellent. I am very grateful for such a good outcome and can now drive confidently again !

In October 2019 the retina in my left eye detached without warning. This was particularly frightening as I am blind in my right eye. I am so lucky that that I was referred to Sid that day. He is extremely skilled and reattached my retina.
I knew that as a result of the type of operation I had needed that I would at some point develop a cataract.
I also knew that I would only want Sid to operate on me for this surgery.
I am delighted to say that five weeks ago Sid replaced my lense and the outcome for me is literally life changing. I no longer need glasses and see with such clarity it is amazing.
Sid is a lovely man, extremely professional and an excellent surgeon. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I've had fantastic treatment from Mr Liyanage the retinal surgeon. I had a macular hole causing a scotoma (blind spot) that was becoming increasingly troublesome. He saw me at short notice, talked me through the examination and scan results in such a way as I could understand, explained my options clearly including technical aspects and possible adverse effects, and finally he performed the operation brilliantly. I was awake and alert throughout, pain free, and he explained what he was doing and checked I was OK as he operated. Mr Liyanage was extremely attentive to my post op recovery, seeing me several times and even calling me to check how things were going. He warned me I would develop a post op cataract fairly soon after the procedure, and a year later he operated on this too, with equal care and attention. The clinical results have been excellent and my vision is very much improved, better than it's been for years and years. thanks Sid!
