St. Giles Hill - View Point

Lovely green space, even on a dull spring day.
Only a short walk from the city centre but,of course, you do have quite a few steps to climb.
Special viewing platform and benches available.
Also quite nice to walk through the park and along Northbrook Avenue and see the grand houses - some of which have great views over the South Downs

Great view of Winchester and very few people. Had the benches to ourselves in fact! A short but steep climb although there is a zigzag path if you don't fancy the steps.

Unfortunately all the nice historic buildings are pretty much hidden amongst the modern stuff nowadays so it really just makes you realise how ugly modern cities are. That's the effect on me anyway, still worth a stomp though 😄

Winchester Cathedral. A view from
St. Giles Hill. A bit of a climb up to it but, well worth the view. This is a good spot to see the Cathedral in the distance as you can see here in the photo. It’s not far from the city to get to - about ten minutes away.

A cool place to have a wide view of the city from above. Not far but about 7 minutes uphill from the city centre.

Well worth the effort. Beware Google maps which got a little confused and directed us to a car park.

The best view of Winchester is seen from here. The walk up the hill doesn’t take too long and once you’re at the top there are 5 benches if you need to sit down. There’s a sing showing what Winchester used to look like compared to it now. The only down side of this place is the amount of rubbish even though there’s a bin.

Surreal view, a must see if you visit Winchester!! If you get lost and set to a car park go back to the pub at the bottom of the road and go to the left not the right of it!

Great views across Winchester. Easy to get to, lots of space for a picnic or to go for a walk. Definitely recommend!!
