Recently (August 2018) revamped with a new children's play area, and also boasts a lawn bowls club and four council-run tennis courts. No toilets at site, with existing facilities being "locked up" and not in use now for a number of years.

Great park with tennis courts, picnic tables, young children’s play area and doggy doodoo bins but Chelmsford Council have permanently closed down the public toilets at Lionmede in June 2018; contact the council to request getting these reopened please.

Went to play lawn tennis with my 11 year old son. The courts are free but very slippery and poorly maintained. There are no lights on the court so in winters can't play after 430 pm. No toilets onsite makes it all the more difficult.
But given we have such facilities around the area to enjoy its abs fabulous. Lovely little play area for younger kids and a garden which is well maintained. Good overall experience for garden and dogs but the tennis courts can be lot more fun if they are given a bit TLC.

Great little park, with a decent field for kids to run around. My daughter enjoyed the chairoplane/carousel/merry-go-round. You don't find at many parks.

No great features, just a pleasant, friendly small park - good bowls club it appears. Nice to relax in, not too busy, recommended.

Lovely recreation ground that is well maintained. Good park for children to enjoy and the luxury of two sets of public tennis courts at either side. There are also multi use game posts that can be used as a goal. Some running markers around the edge of the park would be great to help with jogging distance.
