This garden is part of the cathedral grounds, and back in the 14th Century the monks cultivated this land, turning it into a fruitful vineyard - hence the origin of its name.
Ancient oaks and yews looks down on the many benches where you can sit, relax and listen to the wind blowing through their leaves. Mulberry, lavender and rosemary bushes add colour and fragrance to this calming oasis. Despite being so close to the High Street, it feels private and secluded.
A Christmas Market occupies this space in winter but, for me, I much prefer it when it’s calm and tranquil.
