Worcester Swan Sanctuary

Large volume of swans on the river Severn. Frequent feeding on the rowing club steps on the cricket ground side of the river below the bridge. The sanctuary was created by the City council and Worcester Cathedral in the 1980s . See photo of notice board for more details.

Lovely place to see swans. There's loads of them. There tends to be fewer after Christmas, the queen has a big family.

Sacks of bread being dropped in daily, can't be any good for the birds, healthy alternative they use is dry uncooked particle fed in kilos, this should be soaked for 24hrs then boiled for an hour so it doesn't swell in their stomachs, this is not the case.
In my opinion this in the long-term will affect the general health and immune system of the birds. So much natural food around and yet they have been conditioned to food that is unhealthy for humans let alone bird life. Last year the bird flu took many poor birds lives, can't help thinking the diet had something to do with the high numbers of deaths .

Well worth a visit, we thought we were used to swans as we live in Shrewsbury by the river and there's always a few about, but this is a whole new level, and they were so calm when my children walked right down the steps to be near them.
