A vast expansion of green, trees, and hills. Suitable for dogs, humans, and other animals. Jog, run, walk, cycle. Chantry wood is fun for everyone.

This is a wonderful place for a short but hilly walk almost in Guildford. Great views from the top of the hill across the city and over the Surrey hills. We will be back in the summer. Possibly with a picnic.

Nice wood to walk and chill, lots of families are roaming around the wood. You're not gonna feel lonely during weekend, it's pretty busy there tbh. 😂 however, you can walk through the forest and walk toward Pewley down. Great place to visit ngl

Lovely walk. Small circular route is good for walking dogs. Plenty of shade

One of the best aspects of this place is seeing the amount of dogs. It was lovely to see so many of them. I also heard a dog whistle for the first time and it was quite piercing.

There is a steep incline, with steps.

There is also interesting-looking fungi at this time of the year.

Also, there was a child's coat draped over a branch. Please see one of the attached photographs. I do hope that it is reunited with the owner.

If you are walking the North Downs Way, I would recommend a slight detour via the hilly expanse of Chantry Wood - especially in April/May, when the forest floor is covered with bluebells. At the top, there is a clearing in the trees with a view of Guildford cathedral. Also take in the southern stretch, to walk over open grassland with views of Blackheath, the Haslemere hills and the South Downs.

Some of the paths can be quite muddy when it's been wet, but generally Chantry Wood is fine even in winter, and it's usually possible to circumvent the muddy bits. Since there are car parks at both ends (the one outside Guildford in the west and the other for St. Martha's Hill at the eastern end), it tends to be relatively busy.
