A beautiful place to stretch your legs, unfortunately never saw any deer. St Mary’s is a beautiful church next to the obelisk a focal point at the end of the drive. You could even get an ice cream from the van. Another option was to go into Fountains Abbey run by the National Trust. There is a pay and display car park not too far from the church and lake

April 2022. Big Park. Deers roaming about freely. I had to pause in my steps to allow a large gathering of them to pass me by. It was like the old western movies when a stranger enters a saloon bar and it goes quiet and everyone stares at the new comer! All I could see were about 50 pair of deer eyes staring at me as they sauntered on. Bit weary to be honest as I didn't want to be bitten or get gouged with those sharp antlers!

A large park with loads of paths and interesting things too see. Saw loads of deer and birds and os normally more quiet than the main gardens.

We got here at 7.30am so we could get some pictures of the deer and it worked out very good.
There was no other cars in the car park and the only people around were jockers and dog walkers, we left the car park up the hill towards the trees and within 15 minutes we could see the deer in the distance, a short walk and we came over a hill and there was a large group around 30-40 so we got plenty of close up pictures by hiding behind some fell trees, great morning.

Searched every inch of the park & finally found the deer over literally the last hill that was left, so persevere as they are there but they're very wary of people

Well worth the effort though to see these beautiful creatures in their natural surroundings.

Beautiful grounds and scenery great for long leisurely walks with deer all around grazing and a beautiful river and waterfalls to wander around, had a lovely day exploring 😀

Great place to walk around, roads and paths clear and kept well. Fascinating to see the deer; we only managed to find a large group of Red deer but those were fascinating enough. They were very approachable and didn’t seem too concerned about us being near them.
There is a tea room with picnic benches outside; I’d recommend bringing cash with you just incase the electric goes off like it did today for us (haha!). I’m sure that’s not a regular occurrence, but bring some if it’s hot day, just incase!

Lovely place to explore! And generally just a nice walk out. Either walk around the grounds, or you can go exploring outside too, as lots of walks around to follow. Near every time I’ve been I’ve seen some dears, and wow aren’t they amazing. Just need to respect distance and be quite, but some good chances of some good pictures!
