Convenient car park for walks in Riverside park or woodmill

Daytime: good, near the park, ice cream van, suitable for children.

Night-time: avoid "amorous activity" hotspot. Once it's dark, especially in the winter, you see quite a few cars parked with no lights - except their brake lights. The road entrance is small and has sparse lighting; the actual car park is pitch black (surrounded by trees). Even driving past, it's clear what people are doing.

Great place to go with the kids to either play in the park or to get in their kayaks and go up and down the river.

We used this on a sunny September weekend lunchtime and there were a few spaces left. It's not marked out. There didn't seem to be an obvious sign for the entrance especially if approaching from the 'bridge side'. Easy pedestrian access to the Riverside once parked. As it's free, no complaints and would use again.

A free car park to then go for a peaceful walk along the river.
Sometimes an ice cream van is there and sometimes rubbish is illegally dumped there.

Good place to park to walk along the river footpath which leads to Mansbridge. If you cross the road in the other direction there is a cafe in the old mill building.

Riverside is quite a large car park with a small children’s play area at one end.
Car park does get busy as it’s a good starting point for a walk along Woodmill river.
If you cross the road ahead of you there’s a nice walk along to Cobden Bridge where there’s a skateboard park, basketball court and plenty of other activities going on.
Woodmill activity centre is a couple of minutes walk away where I believe you can go canoeing or paddle boarding.

There's a height restriction of 2m, it's free and it is very convenient for Riverside Park and the footpath along the banks of the River Itchen. Various recycling bins tend to overflow and look scruffy, but are potentially useful too. The biggest concern is safety and security, particularly after dark, as the car park is a little secluded and not as well lit as it could be.
