High Chelmer Multi Storey Car Park

About 30 of us stranded outside today unable to get to cars. Some with young children looking particularly stressed and worried.

Four young adults also locked INSIDE shouting trying to get out.

This was due to closing early without any signage showing this (Good Friday but sign doesn’t warn of early closing ) 50 pounds to open the door after a long wait.

Unreal. Was only 7.45

Had to call to be told it says this in the website. But zero warning anywhere else and didn’t see the website.

Will be challenging the fine and show some of the people by the locked door and sign here. Many more were signing the forms to allow cars to be released.

Designed with the small cars of the 1960s in mind, this multi storey is a real challenge for modern cars. I’ve visited 3 times because it’s convenient for Essex CCC, but it’s a always a pain.
Hard for the owner to improve the set up because there’s no space.

This car park is used as a necessity when visiting that side of town for a particular purpose.
The spaces are tight, due to its age and construction there are too many supporting posts making those tight spaces too small for even a small crossover vehicle.
No parent and child spaces, meaning having a baby and a toddler its nearly impossible to park in this car park as a lone parent and get both out of the car.

There are lifts in one section of the car park so you have to be careful where you park if you've got buggy.

If you dont use the lift the stairwells have the standard car park smell of stale urine.

It's a good place to go if you are driving and want to get out and go somewhere. Plenty of marked areas where you can leave your vehicle but please try and stop between the lines and not over them.

Absolute terrible experience. This car park needs updating ASAP. Parking has no app to pay with only cash which is a bit of an inconvenience as no one really carries cash no more……

Multistorey above the covered market. Parking is split into upper & lower and is now card payment only, collect ticket on entry & use payment machine to validate ticket to exit.

Was charged 2 times to get out. 1st I paid £2 at the machine. Got to the barrier and scanned my ticket and barrier didn't open telling me I have to pay £3 so I rang the operator and politely explained that I already paid using the machine inside the car park and that this is a mistake. I said I can show you bank statement via the camera or that mabye he can check my reg number. That jobsworth told me he can't do anything and that in order for me to get out I have to pay and I explained that I already did and that mabye if he bothered checking rother then barking though that speaker he would see, "contact Chelmsford Council and have a good day" THEIFS

The best way to see top quality High Chelmer, which seems better than Meadows Shopping Centre, but it's parking lot is better than it. This parking lot doesn't have clean vibes, parking is said awkward from others & it gets confusing for which floor you are on
