A truly magnificent area of well managed ancient woodland with extraordinary trees and associated wild life, including beetles, butterflies, moths, fungi and birds. The only down side is that the dog walkers do not collect all their dogs' waste product. From the comments one might conclude that British people only walk in the countryside to exercise their dogs and take no other interest at all in nature. Dog walkers please correct me if I am wrong.

A fantastic woodland with plenty of variety. Wonderful for dog walking or exploring. It is a large area and includes a big reservoir. The Woodland trust run events to introduce people to its diverse features which includes industrial workings from yesteryear.

A stunning early autumn walk some leaves turn colour while others remain verdant. Bright sun after a heavy storm leaves the woods gloriously bright.

Good free carpark with a helpful map and other notices. Only downside is that with the clay soil it can be quite slippery, there is also no signs in the woods to navigate back so make sure you have a gps/walking app. Low bar to enter so no campers I imagine.

Wonderfully woods lots of walking trails very quiet place 2 main car parks 30 cars tops so for a very large area of woodland it's always going to be quiet great variety of trees and in July many butterflies if you head down to the lake it is currently July 2021 very wet under foot
