Since my last visit has become a pay and display car park using ANPR. Means that more people are parking on the surrounding roads to avoid the charges.

Don’t use the parking app to pay here, it’s £1.50 if you use the machine but £5 on the app, a clear cash grab.

Fascinating place, a Roman port. The landside wall on 3 sides is standing. The 4th side is the docks where you can see signs of the port

Car parking for visits to nearby Roman Fort and St Peter and Paul Church. Car park gates locked after 6pm but attraction can be accessed from footpaths and scenic Riverside boardwalk. Mostly flat but access may be limited nearer Riverside slope area. Although an English Heritage site there are no facilities beyond basic signage but is well worth the visit. Suitable for dog walkers and bins dotted about.

Free car park to access the Roman Fort which is about 10- 15 minutes walk away. The car park has tarmac, nice and clean. It could be better sign posted from the main road.
