One significant perk is that you'll be assessed by multiple different therapists, meaning if one misses one point of interest, the chances are another will spot it - and the feedback you'll receive throughout is consistent, with therapists striving to keep each other up to date on the discoveries they make for every patient.
Throw in the various age ranges of the patients and you have an extremely complex challenge, for a highly complicated condition, which somehow all falls into place thanks to great co-ordination with evident success.
I've seen a ton of physios over the course of my life, and honestly none come close to the practitioners here. Their approach involves closely observing you as you perform various exercises, and in addition to correcting minor postural discrepancies as you go, they tweak and customise each activity in response to your needs and ability. I mostly saw Adam Kroon, and it was quite amazing to have someone with his expertise watching you like a hawk - made me focus on the purpose and efficacy of exercise in a way I'd never done before. His diagnostic insights have been incredibly valuable.
Scoliosis wasn't the reason I went to see them - but my back had just enough of a scoliotic twist for my consultant to justify referring me here, because the people here were far and away the best spinal physiotherapy specialists he knew. I can now see what he meant!
Thank you Adam, Isobel and the rest of the team, you're all amazing.
Last week we returned for our follow up physio session with Adam Kroon. He was amazing!
Our daughter (Ruby) has followed the at home exercises set by the team in September and taken the process seriously. We were a little worried that we may have fallen into "bad habits" and were welcoming a session to be reminded of the correct ways to do the exercises.
Adam straight away was polite and kind towards Ruby and, as always, respectful when having the scan done. He went into detail explaining the scan and making sure we understood what we were looking at.
He listened to what Ruby liked/disliked about her current exercise program and then went through the exercises with her offering minor alterations to help with changes noticed on the scan. Ruby had recently had a growth spurt (3cm) and thankfully due to the the support from Scoliosis SOS the changes in her spine were minimal. Adam then patiently taught Ruby some more in depth exercises to help "combat" the changes and showed her how to increase the level of difficulty with her current exercises all the while explaining the changes and showing me what to look for whilst she is completing the moves.
Adam created a relaxed friendly atmosphere and knew exactly how to converse with Ruby. He answered MANY questions and worries and gave us lots of advice.
Adam was so reassuring and positive that Ruby literally bounced out of the clinic feeling very pleased with herself for keeping up with the program correctly. Some of the "tweaks", he offered Ruby challenges to master. We have his email and Adam has said to get in contact with any questions or worries. He sent us Ruby's updated exercise program the next day and included explanations of any changes.
Our next appointment with Adam has been made and Ruby is determined to rise to the "challenges" he set for her. A great tool to keep a teenager interested in the exercises!
The clinic has already helped us with trying to fast track an appointment on the NHS (we have been waiting since May last year) and Adam will help us to push forward a much needed x-ray.
We cannot thank the team at Scoliosis SOS enough.
Thank you!
