Chester Piano Lessons

I began lessons with Jan back in 2010, having already taught myself some of the basics I started lessons with the aim of sitting my Grade 5 ABRSM Piano exam. Although this aim was rather ambitious, Jan took me on and we began work right away. Straight away, I found Jan very approachable, friendly, and warm, which really eased my nerves during my first few lessons. Jan's teaching style is highly engaging, and I always found myself looking forward to lessons with her. Jan's lessons are very structured and easy to follow, but no two lessons feel the same. She always makes the interesting and fun, while providing highly constructive feedback and practise plans. I sat my Grade 5 within 6 months of lessons with Jan, and continued through until Grade 8 with her. Through my lessons with Jan I found my technique and musicality improved substantially, and I feel like much more of a confident pianist because of her. It had been a goal of mine to achieve Grade 8 since I was a child, and it's thanks to Jan that I was able to achieve this. Even since finishing my lessons, I've stayed in touch with her and she's always there to assist me in any piano related stuff i.e. suggesting books/repertoire etc. It was an absolute pleasure to be a pupil of Jan's for many years, and I couldn't recommend her enough.

Jan is a wonderful teacher who is extremely patient. I had never played an instrument before and thanks to Jan, I achieved grade 1 and grade 2. I would highly recommend Jan to anyone wanting to learn to play the piano.

Jan is a fantastic piano player and teacher. I made a great deal of progress in the six months that I had lessons with Jan but unfortunately had to stop having lessons due to other commitments. If I ever resume lessons Jan will be the first person I go to and I highly recommend her for anyone wanting to improve their piano skills.

Jan is an excellent piano teacher. Having never had lessons before, I started with Jan in 2018 and have progressed through a few grades already. Jan is very professional, extremely patient, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to others. Its been an exciting and rewarding 12 months, and i look forward to the next one :-) Thanks Jan.

Jan has been wonderful with my daughter. She brings the best out of her as my daughter can be shy and reluctant to talk, but as well as being a great piano teacher, she has the perfect manner to be a teacher and get the best out of her students. She also considers the children’s interests and as well as covering the usual pieces, my daughter is currently learning a piece from Harry Potter!

As a mature person, with no previous experience of piano playing, within 6 months I have come such a long way thanks to the teaching of Jan. Patient, professional, friendly, strict when I’ve needed it too!
Best decision I have made in finding the way to learn a difficult skill was deciding on Jan as a tutor.

Our daughter has been having lessons for the last 6 months including some over Skype during lockdown. Mrs Graham is very patient and explains things thoroughly and to an appropriate level. I have been surprised how quickly she is able to play several pieces .

I have been having Piano lessons with Jan for around two years now, re-starting after giving up as a child. I love my lessons and have really learnt a lot. She is really patient with me. I couldn't ask for a better teacher. She is always willing and able to offer advice about what books are best, piano tuners and places to buy pianos. I would highly recommend Jan to anyone wishing to pursue piano.
