St Nicholas’ Church, Thames Ditton

One of Surrey's best old churches, tucked away at the north end of what used to be a riverside village before a suburb swallowed it. The plan is odd, double-aisled and almost square with additions and alterations extending the original 11th century building until the 19th. Lots of interesting items, including a very important original font with rare sculptural details. Charming cameo portrait of a Victorian gent with mutton-chop whiskers behind the pulpit. Good to find the church kept open.
