Blown away by this beautiful little chapel in the village cemetery of Compton in Surrey. The inside walls are completely covered with lavish decoration in terracotta relief carving and paintings. According to the local council, it is "a unique concoction of art nouveau, Celtic, Romanesque and Egyptian influence”.
My photos in no way capture the beauty and creativity that it bestows. Simply stunning!

Went to take pictures of the chapel but unfortunately it was under renovation and it was covered in some sort of plastic wrapping, there was no information that it was under renovation. But that didn’t stop me from walking around the cemetery and taking pictures. Would recommend going in the afternoon as the sun is just shinning through the cemetery and just gives it a warm feeling.

This place is completely different from the others in England. From the outside, it reminds me of Italy, and inside we can breathe in Orthodox art mixed with Art Nouveau! Wow! I love it! 😊
I came from Godalming. (using the Google maps) The journey was not physically demanding, but it was an hour and a half of normal walking. Mostly on the sidewalk. Or on the road without much traffic. Only in one place (300 yards) it goes along a busy road. You can enjoy on the way, I admired the local residential architecture. 😉

The design of the chapel is unique and incredibly ornate. The interior is stunning although smaller than you might think.

It is worth walking up the hill behind the chapel to see the memorial plaques including a large monument to the Watts.

The graveyard around the church is very pretty. .ake sure to see the decorative well at the bottom of the hill.

There is some parking in the lane outside the chapel.

If you visit Watts gallery (worth a look) take a short stroll through the cemetery to the Chapel. From the outside it's okay from the inside it's amazing.

Beautifully designed and built! Even the graves here are all very artistically designed and not the kind of thing you would find in your average graveyard.
